Butcher signs tender with Brown Bears

Anchorage product is top scorer in NAHL developmental league

Alec Butcher of the North American Prospects Hockey League has recently signed a tender to try out for the Kenai River Brown Bears. He is the third player originally from the Pikes Peak Miners team in Colorado to try out for the Brown Bears, along with Skylar McKnight and Kyle Keenan.

“Every team gets 10 tenders, which is a contract to distribute to anyone in the world who is interested in playing, and it means that player will try out for the team the following year,” Kenai head coach Oliver David explained.

The tender also means no other team can contact Butcher, as Kenai holds the rights for him, until he makes the team or they release him.

Butcher is the top scorer this season in the NAPHL, which is a developmental league for the NAHL. He has scored 43 points in 22 games this season.

“Alec is an Anchorage kid, and I think it’s great they got a hold of him, and to keep him at home,” Miners head coach Greg Vanover said.

“Our job is to develop the players, and we have five kids tendered in the NAHL, so I’m proud of that. We have a pretty good reputation of developing players.”
