Avalanche forces shuffling of NSC tourney

An avalanche on Thursday forced a shuffling of the North Star Conference tournament, which was supposed to start Thursday at the Soldotna Sports Center.

When the Seward Highway was closed near the Sterling Highway intersection on Thursday morning, the Wasilla, Colony and Palmer hockey tournaments were not able to travel to Soldotna.

In the new schedule, Wasilla and Kenai play at 7 p.m. Friday, while Colony and Homer play at 5 p.m. Friday.

The semifinals will be Saturday morning. Soldotna gets the Wasilla-Kenai winner at 11:15 a.m., while Palmer gets the Colony-Homer winner at 5 p.m.

The championship will be 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
