Tennis to wrestle for title at 145

Ellery Steffensen upset in semifinals

Auston Tennis is the only Kenai Peninsula wrestler who will wrestle for a state championship Saturday at the Class 4A state wrestling meet at Bartlett High School.

Friday, Tennis pinned Dominic Taus of Eagle River at 4:29 in the semifinals to earn a spot in the 145-pound finals. Tennis, a defending state champion at 145 pounds, will face Wasilla’s Tyler Adams in the finals. Adams beat Tennis at the Northern Lights Conference tournament in Kodiak last weekend.

At 132, Kenai freshman Ellery Steffensen was upset by Kodiak’s Cameron White in the semifinals. Steffensen, the No. 2 seed, lost 7-1.

Steffensen and Tennis were the only two Peninsula wrestlers in the semifinals.

Service leads after the first day of the tourney with 223.5 points, while Wasilla is second at 148.5. Soldotna sits at 12th, while Kenai is 17th.
