Hakkinen, US shine in Finland

Kasilof biathlete Jay Hakkinen was part of a sparkling effort from the United States squad at the World Cup biathlon in Kontiolahi, Finland, on Thursday and Friday.

Hakkinen took 16th with just one miss on the range in the 10-kilometer sprint on Friday. He finished in 25 minutes, 46.3 seconds, just 48.1 seconds behind the winner, Martin Fourcade of France.

Also for the U.S. on Friday, Lowell Bailey was fifth, Russell Currier was sixth and Tim Burke was 13th.

Hakkinen also was part of sixth-place finish for the U.S. mixed relay on Thursday.
