Masters swimmers place in Anchorage

Three swimmers from the Top of the World Swimming (TOWS) Masters Workout Group placed fourth overall out of eight teams at the 2012 Masters Short Course Yards Swimming Championships. The annual meet was held on Feb. 10 and 11 at the Bartlett High School in Anchorage.
Joanne Wainwright won all six of her races in the 55 to 59 age group, which included four new state records. She put up record times in the 500-yard freestyle, with a time of 6 minutes, 19.57 seconds, the 100 butterfly in 1:13.68, the 200 butterfly in 2:41.81 and the 400 individual medley in 5:43.17.
Her other wins came in the 100 freestyle and the 50 butterfly.
Angie Brennan, swimming in the 35 to 39 age group bracket, won the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 24:47.68, to go along with a second place in the 200 freestyle, a third in the 50 freestyle and fourth in both the 100 individual medley and 50 breaststroke.
Sarah Williams placed second in the 30 to 34 age group in the 500 freestyle with a time of 8:47.66. She also had third-place finishes in the 100 individual medley, the 50 backstroke, the 50 freestyle and the 50 butterfly, as well as a fourth place in the 50 breaststroke.
