Friday hoops roundup: SoHi, Skyview, Nikiski and more

The Soldotna girls basketball team rolled past Palmer 58-33 in Northern Lights Conference action on Friday at Soldotna.

The Stars grabbed an 18-7 lead after the first period and by the end of the third quarter had a 43-25 advantage.

Kaillee Skjold had 25 points to pace Soldotna, while Kelci Benson added 11 points. For Palmer, Kasara Brandenberg had nine points.

Palmer boys 65, Soldotna 55, OT

The visiting Moose outscored the Stars 12-2 in the extra frame for a Northern Lights Conference victory on Friday.

Palmer had just five scorers, but four were in double figures. Jackson Buresh had 17, James Nisbett had 16, Jared Straight had 15 and Connor Looney had 13.

Wasilla girls 73, Homer 14

The visiting Warriors took a 20-0 lead after the first quarter on the way to an NLC triumph.

Alyssa Hutchins had 22 points to lead Wasilla, while Haley Oliver’s four points paced the Mariners.

Wasilla boys 66, Homer 28

The Warriors held the host Mariners to four points in the first half in picking up the NLC win.

Wasilla, which led 29-4 at halftime, was led by Connor Devine’s 22 points. Dane Kuiper added 15 points, while Braydon Kuiper had 12.

Ryan Cotney had nine points for the Mariners.

Cordova girls 49, Nikiski 30

The Wolverines took a 14-2 lead after the first quarter and didn’t look back in picking up a Friday Southcentral Conference victory over the visiting Bulldogs.

Angie Kelly had 17 points for Cordova, while Misa Webber added 15. For Nikiski, Savannah Griffel had 13 points.

Cordova boys 44, Nikiski 23

The host Wolverines clamped down on defense for a Southcentral Conference victory on Friday night.

The Bulldogs scored just five points in the first half as the Wolverines jumped out to a 23-5 lead.

William Roemhildt had 16 points to pace Cordova, while Colton Anderson had nine points for Nikiski.

ACS boys 69, Seward 49

The Lions outscored the visiting Seahawks 25-11 in the fourth quarter to sew up the Southcentral Conference victory on Friday.

Gus Simmers had 21 points for Anchorage Christian Schools, while Calvin Hoffman had 16 points and Tyler Sullivan added 10 points.

Jalen Terry had 17 points to lead Seward, while Jayna O’Leary added 10.

CIA girls 37, Grace Christian 25

The CIA Eagles scored a nonconference road win as they beat Grace.

In a well-balanced effort, Megan Bauder led CIA with nine points, and teammate Nicole Moffis had eight points. 

Grace was led by Liz Viergutz, who had 11 points. 

Kodiak boys 58, Skyview 46

The Kodiak boys outscored the Panthers 19-9 in the third quarter to win at Skyview on Friday. The Northern Lights Conference game had been tied at 22 at halftime.

DJ Diaz led Skyview with 16 points. Jordan Jones had 12 points as well.

Kodiak girls 55, Skyview 9

The Panthers were heavily outscored against Kodiak on Friday night at Skyview in NLC action.

Chelsey Ahlers led Skyview with five points. 

Ila Hughes paced Kodiak with 16 points.

Grace Christian boys 48, CIA 39

The Eagles lost in nonconference action against Grace on Friday at Grace.

David Reischach led CIA with 19 points, and Koebryn Mlynarik had 11.

Hans Karlberg led Grace with 18 points. 

Ninilchik boys 64, Nanwalek 21

The Wolverines scored a win against Nanwalek on Friday at the Seldovia Tournament.

Ninilchik was strong right from the get-go, outscoring Nanwalek 26-7 in the first quarter. 

Billy Riley scored 26 points to lead Ninilchik. 

In Thursday play in Seldovia, the Bristol Bay boys notched a 52-36 victory over Seldovia, while the Ninilchik boys beat Seldovia 72-43, with Riley scoring 34 points.

Bristol Bay boys 55, Nanwalek 37

Nanwalek dropped a game to Bristol Bay on Friday at the Seldovia Tournament.

Starting slow, Nanawalek managed to score 30 points in the second half to keep pace with Bristol Bay. 

John Romanoff scored 19 points to pace Nanwalek.

Seward girls 50, ACS 43 

Seward picked up a Southcentral Conference win on the road against Anchorage Christian Schools. 

Meg Berry had 16 points to lead the Seahawks, while the top scorer for ACS was Dallas Dickerson with 24 points.
