2012 Iron Dog is under way

The 2012 Iron Dog started Sunday in Big Lake. The racers are making a 2,000-mile journey to Fairbanks.

The Kenai Peninsula has two representatives in the Pro Class. Kasilof’s Dusty Van Meter, a three-time winner, is racing with Marc McKenna of Anchorage. The duo was in third as of Sunday night, taking a layover in McGrath.

Soldotna’s Scott Davis, the seven-time winner, is teamed with Todd Palin of Wasilla. Those two are fifth, also in a layover at McGrath.
