Van Meter runs in 3rd

Kasilof’s Dusty Van Meter and Anchorage’s Marc McKenna were running in third late Thursday night in the 2,000-mile 2012 Iron Dog.
Van Meter, a three-time champion, and McKenna declared their 10-hour layover in Unalakleet. The two leading teams pushed ahead and did their 10-hour layover in Kaltag.
Soldotna’s Scott Davis, a seven-time winner, and Todd Palin of Wasilla were running in seventh place. They also declared their layover in Unalakleet.
The race will finish in Fairbanks on Saturday.
