Seward girls topple ACS to take Southcentral title

The Seward girls beat host Anchorage Christian Schools 55-44 on Friday in Anchorage to win the Southcentral Conference title and earn a berth to state for the second-straight year.
Chelsey Clarke had 16 points to lead Seward while teammate Meg Berry had 11 points.
Sarah Geagel had 14 points to pace ACS.
ACS boys 71, Grace 46
The Anchorage Christian School boys knocked off Grace Christian to win the Southcentral title Friday in Anchorage.
Calvin Hoffman had 27 points to lead ACS, while teammate Augustus Simmers had 17.
Hans Karlberg had nine points to lead Grace.
ACS started strong, as it outscored Grace 40-20 in the first half.
Grace boys 61, Seward 50
The Grizzlies, the No. 3 seed, topped the Seahawks to earn second place Saturday and a berth to state. Seward’s season ends just short of a second-straight berth to state.
Grace topped Seward 54-48 on Thursday, and was able to take down the Seahawks again thanks to a strong second quarter. The Grizzlies outscored the Seahawks 18-4 in the second quarter to a take a 32-16 lead at halftime.
The Seahawks did not go down quietly. In the fourth quarter, Jalen Terry hit six 3-pointers, while Jeff Buchanan and Gabe Stovall also added fourth-quarter 3s.
Terry led Seward with 18 points, while Hans Karlberg had 20 points for Grace. Joe McGlaughlin pitched in 17 points for the Grizzlies, while Bradley Boerger had 11.
ACS girls 70, Cordova 38
The host Lions left little doubt about who would continue on to state Saturday by cruising in the second-place game.
Dallas Dickerson had 23 points for the Lions, while Sarah Geagel added 17. Angie Kelly had 18 points for Cordova.
Cordova girls 39, Nikiski 37
The Bulldogs, the No. 5 seed at the tournament, nearly worked their way into the second-place game, but came up just short against the fourth-seeded Wolverines on Saturday.
Dylan Holloway had 12 points to pace Nikiski, while Angie Kelly had 16 points for Cordova.

Seward boys 49, Cordova 40
The Seahawks advanced to the second-place game by topping the Wolverines on Friday.
Seward held Cordova to just 19 points in the first three quarters in taking a 38-19 lead.
Matthew Moore had 11 points for the Seahawks, while Jeff Buchanan and Logan Clemens had 10 points apiece.
For Cordova, which saw its season end with the loss, William Roemhildt and Keith Nolan each had 15 points.
Nikiski girls 45, Grace Christian 37
The Nikiski girls, the No. 5 seed, toppled Grace Christian 45-37 on Friday in the Southcentral Conference tournament at Anchorage Christian Schools.
Sienna Wallis scored 13 points to lead the Bulldogs, and teammate Savannah Griffel had 10 points.
Elizabeth Viergutz led Grace, the No. 3 seed, with 11 points.
Seward boys 56, Nikiski 53
The Seahawks dropped the Bulldogs in a tight game Friday to move on to the Southcentral next round in the second-place bracket and keep alive the hopes of a second-straight state berth.
Jeff Buchanan had 19 points to lead Seward, while teammate Jalen Terry had 18.
Colton Anderson paced the Nikiski squad with 23 points, and teammate Lucas Herrin had 18 points.
