Hakkinen finishes 40th in World Cup pursuit

Posted: March 17, 2012 - 4:22pm

Kasilof biathlete Jay Hakkinen most likely completed his World Cup season by finishing 40th in the 12.5-kilometer World Cup pursuit Saturday in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia.

Hakkinen started in 19th place, but early stumbles on the range cost him position. He missed two shots in each of his first two rounds of shooting, then was perfect on his final two rounds. He finished at 39 minutes, 10.3 seconds, 4:23.2 behind winner Martin Fourcade of France, who clinched the overall World Cup title.

On Friday, Hakkinen finished 19th in the 10-kilometer sprint. Hakkinen had just one miss on the range, finishing in 27:46.5, 1:06.3 behind winner Martin Fourcade of France, who shot perfectly.

Hakkinen is 33rd on the start list and only the top 30 get to start in today’s mass start.
