Kards get area track season started

The area track season got started Friday and Saturday with Kenai Central attending the Mini Meet at The Dome in Anchorage.

 

On Friday, both the Kards girls and boys scored just two points. Andrew Mole finished seventh in the 3,200 meters with a time of 11 minutes, 9.5 seconds, while Chugiak’s Tim Sorenson won that event at 10:30.1.

Jyzzyka Gage took seventh in the triple jump at 27 feet, 9 inches, for Kenai, while Service’s Dajanae Harris won at 32—10.

Saturday, the Kards fared better. On the girls side, Kenai scored 22 points to finish third on the day.

The Kardinals took second in the 1,600-meter relay. Beverly Schindler, Gage, Leah Sandahl and Bailey Beeson finished at 4:33.87, while Dimond finished first at 4:32.77.

Beeson also took third in the 800 with a time of 2:27.30. Morgan Dampier of Wasilla won at 2:18.04. In the 100, Beeson placed eighth at 13.76 seconds.

The Kardinals also scored points in the 100 hurdles. Sandahl was fifth in 18.67, while Schindler was sixth at 18.77. Bartlett’s Rosie Smith won at 15.78.

The boys scored 11 points on Saturday to place seventh.

AJ Hull paced the Kardinals by finishing second in the 100 with a time of 11.76. Dimond’s Darrion Gray took first at 11.52.

In the 1,600, Jonah Theisen scored a point for the Kardinals by taking eighth place. Theisen finished at 4:47.18. Service’s Max Romey won at 4:45.63.

Finally, Joe Sandahl took seventh in the 110 hurdles with a time of 17.65. West’s Pedro Pena won that event at 16.87.
