Brown Bears clinch playoff spot

The Kenai River Brown Bears clinched a spot in the North American Hockey League playoffs when the Fresno (Calif.) Monsters lost to the Wenatchee (Wash.) Wild 3-1 on Saturday.

The Bears' Saturday game with the Alaska Avalanche of Palmer was still in progress when the Bears clinched a playoff spot.

Heading into the evening, the Bears and Monsters were tied with 64 points, but Kenai River was 30-25-4, while Fresno finished at 27-23-10. Since the Bears have more wins, they take the tiebreaker.

The Bears finish fourth in the division and will face the division champion Fairbanks Ice Dogs in the first round of the playoffs.
