Hutchison does not make Olympics

Skyview graduate Michaela Hutchison did not make the Olympics on Saturday at the Olympic Trials in Iowa City, Iowa.

Hutchison wrestled at 55 kilograms, but did not make it to the finals of the women’s freestyle event. Kelsey Campbell of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Helen Maroulis of Rockville, Md., made it to the best-of-three finals at 55 kilograms. Campbell defeated Maroulis 0-2, 1-0, 2-1, and 2-0, 0-1, 1-0, to earn the Olympic berth.

In the third-place match at 55 kilograms, Shauna Isbell of Flagstaff, Ariz., defeated Sharon Jacobson of Colorado Springs 3-4, 2-1, 2-0.

Hutchison beat Amy Whitbeck to advance to the semifinals of the tournament to challenge Helen Maroulis for the Olympic berth, but lost to Campbell 1-0, 1-0.

Hutchison then lost in the consolation bracket to Isbell, 3-1, 0-1, 3-1.
