Soldotna kickers sweep Grace Christian

The Soldotna soccer teams completed a successful trip to Grace Christian on Tuesday, as the boys and girls teams both won their games with a score of 2-0.

In the girls game, Kylee Wolfe put Soldotna up with a first-half goal, as she was able to take advantage of a broken play and slipped the ball past Grace’s goalkeeper.

“It was alright, and actually better than I was anticipating,” coach Jimmy Love said of the win.

The second score was tallied by Miranda Wolfe, Kylee’s sister, on a pass from Julie Litchfield.

“She had the open space and outran the defender, and slipped it past the goalkeeper,” Love said. “It was one of the nicest goals I’ve seen in a while.

“If we can get better on our touches, spacing, shooting, we can be a true contender for state.”

In the boys competition, Cory Carver scored both goals for Soldotna, the first coming in the 16th minute off an indirect kick. Carver was able to use his head to knock the ball in.

In the 70th minute, Carver was once again able to score on a throw-in.

“It’s good to get a shutout,” coach Jeff Siemers said. “They played good defensively, and hopefully we can get better the more games we play.”

Soldotna’s teams will play Seward next, scheduled tentatively for either Saturday or Monday.
