Nikiski soccer teams sweep Houston

The Nikiski boys beat Houston 5-1 in a come-from-behind win.

Down 1-0 early in the match, Nikiski managed to knock off five consecutive goals to ice the win, as Christian Riddall scored two goals, along with one each by Johnny Hall and Michael Stangl. Stangl also had two assists, and Logan Harrison and Colton Anderson provided assists as well.

“We made a mistake at the beginning, letting one through, but they came together and scored five goals,” Nikiski head coach Jim Coburn said. “The defense played solid, and (goalkeeper) Lincoln Johnson had a great game.”

The fifth goal came when the Houston goaltender slipped up while trying to handle the ball and let it through to the net.

Nikiski is set to play Grace Christian on Saturday.

Nikiski girls 5, Houston 0

Nikiski took control early and never let go as the girls soccer team took an easy win over the Hawks.

“They played really well, and were able to use nice passing, and kind of control the tempo,” Nikiski coach Mandy Adair said. “We were able to distribute attacks, and it showed because we had multiple scorers.”

Morgan Tschida opened the scoring early with an easy shot into the net. Teammates Bailey Buchholz, Sydney Sturgeon and Rachel Thompson each had a score as well.

“Tshida got a break from the defenders, and fired one to open it up, and that helped the momentum,” Adair said.

Nikiski, now holding a 2-1-2 record, will play Grace Saturday.
