Kenai Central softball splits games in Kodiak

The Kenai Central softball team opened up the season by splitting a pair of Northern Lights Conference games in Kodiak.

The Kards lost 10-3 on Friday and won 16-9 on Saturday.

Friday, the Bears had four runs off four Kenai errors in the second inning. Kodiak controlled the game after that.

Hope Steffensen had three hits for Kenai.

Saturday, Kenai took a 9-1 lead after the first inning. Kodiak came back to tie the game at 9 in the top of the third inning, but the Kards scored seven runs in the bottom of that frame to take control of the game.

Briana King pitched the entire game to record the win for the Kardinals. King had seven strikeouts and four walks, and also had two hits at the plate.

Carly Norvelle had five RBIs for the Kards, while Steffensen added four RBIs. Steffensen had four hits, while Norvelle had three hits.
