Kenai tops SoHi in late Monday ballgame

The Kenai Kardinals rallied back from an early deficit and posted 12 runs in the final two innings of a late game Monday evening to beat the Soldotna Stars 16-13 in Northern Lights Conference play.
“It was a combination of us getting hits and being able to take advantage of mistakes they made,” Kenai coach John Kennedy said.
Soldotna led 11-4 heading into the sixth inning, but suffered errors that cost them the game, as Ethan Oliver, Justin Wisnewski and AJ Hull were able to get scoring runs.
Hull hit a home run off Soldotna pitcher Jake Darrow that earned Kenai 3 runs and the lead in the final frame, and from there, Kenai continued to press.
Oliver recorded two runs batted in, Hull had four RBI’s, and Wisnewski had three.
Soldotna’s Darrow had three RBI’s, and Soldotna coach Roger Phillips said the number of walks Kenai had was outstanding, and led to Soldotna’s downfall.
Soldotna will play Homer Wednesday at 5 p.m.
