Homer softball splits on weekend

The host Homer softball team took two games from Service on Saturday after losing a pair of games to South on Friday.

After the four nonconference games, Homer has a 4-2 overall record.

Saturday, the Mariners beat the Cougars 12-3 and 16-2.

In the first game, Homer scored three times in the first inning, but Service came back to make it 3-2 in the top of the second. But by the end of the third inning, Homer led 10-2.

The Mariners’ offense kept on rolling in the second game, getting 11 hits. Homer led 11-1 after the second inning.

On Friday, Homer lost to South 11-9 and 14-5.

In the 11-9 loss, Homer banged out 10 hits. The game was tied at six after two innings, but South took a 9-6 lead after the top of the fourth inning and Homer never caught up again.

In the 14-5 loss, Homer was able to get just four hits. South took a 9-2 lead after two innings and cruised from there.
