Friday: Homer soccer sweeps Seward

The Homer girls soccer team defeated Seward 2-0 on Friday in Homer in Northern Lights Conference Southern Division play.


The Mariners improved to 1-2-1 in the division and 2-6-1 overall.

At the 25th minute, Aspen Daigle scored for Homer, assisted by Maggie Koplin. In the 50th minute, Mady Girard scored on an assist from Lindsey Seneff.

Rachel Boan had the shutout in net for the Mariners.

Homer will play at Nikiski on Saturday at 2 p.m. If the Mariners win, they get in the conference tournament for the first time in three years.

“Our girls are playing hard,” Homer coach Mickey Todd said. “They are finally figuring out how to play. It’s too bad the season has to end in the next week.”

Todd said Elaine Miller, Koplin and Gerard all had solid games.

Homer boys 1, Seward 0

The Mariners picked up a forfeit win over the Seahawks on Friday. Homer is now 8-0-2 overal and 4-0-0 in the NLC Southern Division.

Homer travels to Nikiski for a 4 p.m. game Saturday.
