Friday baseball: SoHi beats Homer, Kenai blanks Houston

The Soldotna boys baseball team wrapped up its regular season with an 8-4 win over host Homer on Friday in Southcentral Conference play.

 

The Stars moved their record to 8-2 in the league and 8-3 overall.

Max Hegge pitched the first three innings for SoHi, giving up three runs — two earned. He struck out one.

When Hegge left the game, the Stars were behind 3-1, but Tyler Marcuson came on and gave up just one unearned run in four innings to allow the Stars to catch up. Marcuson struck out six.

"He basically closed like a beast," SoHi assistant Mike Griffin said.

Zack Haning had a solid start for Homer, yielding two runs in four innings, but the Stars got to reliever Willie Deaver for six runs to take an 8-4 lead after six innings. Lucas pitched a scoreless inning to close for Homer.

Jarrett Urban was 3 for 4 with a run and a double for SoHi, while Shayne Miller was 3 for 4 with two runs, a double and two RBIs. Also for SoHi, Gavin Larson was 3 for 4 with a run, double and two RBIs.

Tommy Bowe paced Homer by going 2 for 4.

Kenai Central 10, Houston 0

The host Kardinals toppled the Hawks on Friday in Southcentral Conference action.
