Post 20 has 6-game win streak snapped in 2nd game

The Post 20 Twins split a doubleheader with host West on Saturday in Anchorage in American Legion play.

 

In the first game, the Twins topped West 19-12 for a conference win. It was the sixth straight win for the Twins.

The second game saw that winning streak snapped. The Twins held a 14-10 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh, but lost 15-14. The Twins are 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the league.

Robert Cockrell got the win on the mound in the first game, pitching four innings and giving up four runs on five hits. Dallas Pierren gave up three runs in an inning, Mitchel Daugherty gave up two runs in an inning, and Max Hegge gave up two runs in one-third of an inning. Josiah Covey pitched the final two-thirds of an inning.

Hector Rivera earned the game ball by going 3 for 4 with three runs, four stolen bases and three RBI.

Also for the Twins, Brian Rowe was 2 for 2 with three runs and four stolen bases, AJ Hull was 2 for 6 with two RBI and a stolen base, Tommy Bowe was 2 for 4 and Ethan Oliver was 2 for 5.

The Twins made five errors in the game, but worked around that by banging out 15 hits.

In the second game, the Twins scored seven runs in the top of the seventh for a 14-10 lead, but lost that lead in the bottom of the frame.

Pierren gave up the five runs to take the loss.

“It was a crazy game,” Twins assistant Hector Rivera said of the loss.

Mitchell Thompson was 2 for 4 with two runs and two RBI, Hull was 1 for 2 with two RBI, Rivera was 1 for 1 with a pinch-hit triple that cleared the bases in the seventh, Daugherty was 2 for 5 and Hegge was 1 for 2.

The Twins stay north to face Chugiak in a 12:30 p.m. doubleheader today. Post 20 swept Chugiak in a June 10 doubleheader.
