Bird Homestead report: Quilters Tourney a success

Not even rain can stop our parade. This last weekend was beautiful. The sun was shining, the greens were glowing and the course was packed full of golfers.

We had the Quilters Tournament on Saturday, and it was a success. There were 17 teams out on the course and not one golf cart left in the lot.

Fourth place went to Packy Dick, Rodney Pitch, Judy Christianson and Van Grange. Then came the inevitable chip-off between three teams and the results were: third place went to Vince S., Jeff A., Jake A. and Troy M.; second place went to John Brewer, Steve Ellis, Ken Uben and myself; and first place went to Kelsey Wold, Brandon Wold, George Long and Terry McEvoy.

The Quilters would like to thank Todd Elmore for recruiting so many teams for them. There was a great barbecue with so many baked goods you could satisfy your sweet tooth for a year. The women also held a silent auction with many wonderful items donated by individuals and businesses.

Men’s Night

We had 22 men out here Tuesday night to play. The first-place team was Scott Sundberg, Dave Kimura and Trevor Hordeman. Second place was Roy Bird, Marty Radvansky and Ken Ubben. Long drive was Trevor Hordeman, closest to on No. 6 was Ed Marshall on No. 8 Roy Bird and Roy Bird got pure birdies.

Ladies Night

A great group of ladies showed up Wednesday night. Liz Hayes won long drive and Kim Smith got long putt. First place was Faith Link, Kim Smith and Patti Coursen.

Upcoming Events

We are having our last June tournament this Saturday. It is the Soldotna Youth Sports Golf Tournament sponsored by Soldotna Trustworthy Hardware and Fishing. It should be a great time with lots of unusual events taking place.

I want to thank my granddaughter Royce for getting most of this news ready as I was in Anchorage with Elmer getting a few stints put in. He is doing great and it is business as usual.
