Oilers shut out Bucs to snap losing streak

The Peninsula Oilers finally put a halt to their recent losing streak, beating the Anchorage Bucs 5-0 Wednesday evening at Mulcahy Park in Anchorage.
With the victory, the Oilers sport an 8-4 league record, which means they top the standings, one game ahead of the Chugiak Chinooks.
Nate Ring broke open a scoreless game at the top of the sixth inning with a home run, his first of the season.
The Oilers distanced themselves in the eighth inning, scoring four runs to seal the win.
With the bases loaded, Alex Staehely hit a double by fielder’s choice that allowed Jeff Yamaguchi and Trey Richardson to score when the third baseman failed to connect on a throw from a teammate.
Riley Heinzer then hit a single that allowed Nigel Nootbaar to score.
Jake Alvarez finished up the scoring when he hit a single that pushed Staehely across home plate off the second baseman’s error.
The Oilers play the Bucs again today at 5 p.m. in a doubleheader.
