Bird Homestead report: Trustworthy event rates a success

Posted: July 5, 2012 - 11:18pm

Another great tournament on a beautiful sunny Saturday. The Trustworthy Soldotna youth benefit tournament was a huge success.

There were 12 teams with approximately 18 hole sponsors. Entry fees were kept at a minimum with a lot of fun extra things you could donate to and participate in. Kicking a soccer ball for your drive on No. 4 and also trying to hit a baseball off a baseball tee.

Oh, how stupid. I used to be a fair ballplayer and thought I could smack it. Bad choice.

There was a split-the-pot crazy putt, which was really fun and sorry to say I never made the putt, either. If you have never putted with a tennis ball, you should try it sometime.

Trustworthy furnished lots of prizes and got many other people and businesses to donate prizes. Funny River Quilters donated a beautiful quilt for the silent auction. The first-place team was Mykels at 9-under. All of the rest of the team prizes were blind draw.

The money raised goes to youth from Soldotna High School, Skyview High School, Cook Inlet Academy, Soldotna Little League and many other youth activities, not just sports. Great job, Scott and Brian.

Due to the holiday, we didn’t have women’s night but we will be back at it Wednesday night at 6:30.

Rain or no rain, the men are brave souls. Twenty-five guys teed off at about 6:45 and the rains came down.

However the team of Duane Tachick, Max Carpentar, Spencer Tachick and Jerry Lilleston came in at 3-under-par. Roy Bird, Steve Tachick, Jeff Gillman and Daniel Rivenbark were minus 2. Walt Krigger was closest to on No. 6, Jeff Gillman got No. 8 and Chantz Gillman smacked the long drive.
