The Anchorage Glacier Pilots used a two-out, six-run rally in the seventh inning to top the Peninsula Oilers 10-1 on Monday in Alaska Baseball League play at Coral Seymour Memorial Park.
Fortunately for the Oilers, the blowout victory only counts as one game in the standings. The Pilots are now on top of the ABL with an 18-11 record, while the Oilers are one game back at 17-12.
Nobody else in the ABL is even above .500.
The Oilers have a chance to jump back into a tie for the league lead in a 5 p.m. game today against the Pilots at Seymour Park.
After that, the Oilers go on the road for six games, plus showcase and all-star games in Anchorage. The team then returns home on July 27 for its final four games of the year.
In the seventh inning, the first two Pilots batters were retired, but then Anchorage came up with six runs on five hits to grab an 8-1 lead and essentially put the game away.
Kevin Swick had a big game for the Pilots, going 2 for 5 with two runs and three RBI. Tyler Spoon, Jeff Kremer and Matt Daugherty also had two RBI each for the Pilots.
Trey Teakell picked up the win, going six innings and giving up three hits and a run. He struck out eight.
Logan McAnallen took the loss for the Oilers, lasting 3 2-3 innings and giving up two runs — one earned. Then the bullpen struggled to keep runs off the board, with Michael Coates giving up three runs in three innings, Kyle Ferramola giving up three runs without getting an out, and Chris Kono giving up two runs — one earned — in 1 1-3 innings.
Brandon Warner did pitch a scoreless ninth for the Oilers.
Josh Delph led the Oilers four-hit attack by going 2 for 4 with an RBI.
