Men's Night keeps going strong at Bird Homestead

What a beautiful weekend for golf. The fishermen caught so many fish they came in saying they were tired of fish and wanted to enjoy a round of golf.

Well, the Bird Cup is winding down after tonight. There will be a three-way playoff to crown the champions.

Men’s Night went well with seven teams taking to the tee boxes. The first-place team, with a minus 5, was Hans Brons, Mark Orth, Rob Fraser and David Kimura. Right behind them with 4-under were Darwin Cousins, Danny Hughs and Ricky Relno. Walt Kreiger walked away with long drive again. Rob Fraser got pure birdie honors, Roy Bird picked up closest to the pin on No. 6 and Danny Hughes was closest to on No. 8.

Ladies Night was a little cool, but the ladies went out anyway. Faith Link and Liz Hayes won the team event and Faith Link got long drive.

The Funny River Festival Tournament will be taking place today. This tournament is a blind-draw, nine-hole event. Entries close at noon and tee off will be at 1 p.m. There will be food after the games.

The Peninsula Home Builders Association scholarship tournament will tee off at 10 a.m. Saturday, with lots of great prizes and food by the Moose is Loose and barbecue by Black Jacks. Entries close at 9 a.m.

If you are coming out for that tournament you might want to be a few minutes early as the Funny River parade starts at 10 a.m. also. There will also be lots of fun events happening at the Funny River Community Center.

I am sorry to say that I will not be able to play in the pink ribbon tournament as yours truly will be the auctioneer for the Funny River Festival Auction at noon Sunday. But I wish the ladies the best and I will miss seeing all my old friends.

Enjoy every golf game you can as the fireweed is looking like fall.
