Ostrander wins at Bartlett Relays

Soldotna girls sweep Homer Invitational

Kenai Central sophomore Allie Ostrander started her cross-country season with a dominating performance Saturday at the Bartlett Relays.

Ostrander had the top girls varsity time at 17 minutes, 58 seconds, on the five-kilometer course. The runner-up was Brooke Lizotte of Lathrop at 18:41.

Hope Steffensen also was in the top 10 for the Kardinals, finishing fifth at 19:08.

The Kenai girls did not make it into the top five of the teams results, however. Wasilla was first, West was second, Lathrop was third, Grace Christian was fourth and Dimond was fifth.

The Kenai Central boys were able to place fifth in the team standings. West Valley was first, Service was second, Kodiak was third and Grace Christian was fourth.

The lone Kenai Peninsula runner in the top 10 of the boys race was Seward’s Miles Knotek, who finished at 16:37. Kodiak’s Levi Thomet won at 16:01, while Kodiak’s Cole Christiansen was second at 16:07.

 

Homer Invitational

The Soldotna girls and boys cross-country teams swept the Homer Invitational on Saturday in Homer.

On the girls side, Soldotna topped Homer 27-24, while the Stars were the only scoring team on the boys side.

Dani McCormick led the Stars to victory with a win in the five-kilometer girls race. She finished in 20 minutes, 19 seconds, while teammate Sadie Fox was second at 20:21. Other Stars in the top 10 were Olivia Hutchings at fifth and Hannah Pothast at seventh.

For Homer, Aurora Wacslawski was third, Barae Hirsch was fourth, Pam Jantzi was sixth, Ziza Shemet-Pitcher was eighth and Casey Farrell was ninth.

Nikolaevsk’s Megan Hickman filled out the top 10 by placing 10th.

Homer’s Pedro Ochoa took the boys race at 16:38, while Skyview’s Micah Hilbish was second at 16:41.

The Mariners also got a third from Connor McCarron, a fourth from Brandon Beachy and a seventh from John Walsworth, but Homer did not have enough runners to field a varsity team.

SoHi was paced by a sixth-place finish from Dillon Jensen, while Brenner Musgrave added an eighth-place finish for Skyview. Blake Klaich led Nikolaevsk by finishing ninth.
