Bird Homestead Golf Report: Fall Classic a success

What a beautiful fall we are having. Golfing is great out there right now. We had a fantastic Fall Classic to benefit Central Peninsula Habitat for Humanity. Fourteen teams and Mother Nature really smiled on us  with one of the best days all summer. You could smell the roast pig as you rounded the corner after the first nine.

The team of Jeff Gillman, Spencer Tachick, Roy Bird and Steve Tachick repeated their win again this year with a 64. John and Linda Dahlgren and Darell and Susan Jelsma were second with a 66 after a chip-off with the Go team Mo team of Pat Bird, Amanda Bird, Joe Deveaux and Greg Harrington.

I won’t try to explain the way Joe won that chip, you will have to ask him. Long Drive for women went to Sissy Bird, who also won closest to the pin on No. 6. Long drive for men was Jeff Gillman and closest to on No. 8 went to Joe Deveaux. Thanks to all the people who helped to make this a successful, fun day.

Well, I think moose season affected Men’s Night as we only had 20 guys, but they had another night of good weather. The team of Steve Skolnik, Jeff Gillman, Marty Radvansky and Roy Bird were 4-under and Paul Zimmerman, Jim Sevast, Scott Sundberg and Greg Harrington came in 2-under.

Greg Harrington was closest to on No. 6 and Dave Kerkvliet was closest on No. 8. Long drive was Rich Bartolowits and Roy Bird escaped with the pure birdie.

Ladies Night also got the good weather and everyone had a good time. Patti Coursen, Sally Tachick and Pat Bird came in with a nice 40 even. Faith Link got long drive and all the other pots are still building for next week. We made it before dark so we are still shooting for 6:30. Hope to see you ladies.

Our next big event will be the Brown Bear Tournament, where you could get a chance to play with a member of that great team. Should be lots of fun.

Then Sept. 9 will be the fun Birch-Bird tournament where you pick the course you are playing for and the point system does the rest. This is a fun tournament where you play at Bird course in the morning and Birch Ridge in the afternoon. Contact either course for more information.

Don’t forget the glow ball on Sept. 22.  Hope to see you on one of our great courses here in this area.
