CIA soccer tops Wasilla Lake Christian

The Cook Inlet Academy coed soccer team, the defending Borealis Conference champion, defeated Wasilla Lake Christian 7-2 on Saturday at the Kenai Sports Complex.

 

Madison Orth opened the scoring for the Eagles in the second minute with her second goal of the season. The assist came from Scott Habermann.

Seth Jenkins tied the game up for Wasilla Lake Christian just five minutes later.

The Eagles then struck three times in the final 10 minutes of the first half to take a 4-1 lead. In the 30th minute, Timmy Smithwick scored on a pass from Mylon Weems. Habermann scored in the 37th minute and, on a pass from Smithwick, scored again in the 38th minute for his fifth goal of the season.

Jenkins opened up the scoring for Wasilla Lake Christian in the second half with a goal in the 52nd minute, but CIA scored three times to close out the game.

In the 60th minute, Bryce Horton scored on a free kick from 25 yards out. In the 70th minute, Andrew Hammond scored on a pass from Smithwick. In the 73rd minute, that same duo hooked up again for Hammond’s third goal of the season.
