Bird Homestead Golf Report: Weather dampens golfing

Boy, I hate to open with blaming the weather for not much news, but it is the truth. Of course, school starting and hunting season contribute a lot to that, also.

 

Today, the sun is shining and despite the wind we have golfers out enjoying the lush green course.

But despite the wind and rain we had four hardy guys show up for Men’s Night. The team of Jeff Gillman and Marty Radvansky were the winners.  Long drive and pure birdie went to Roy Bird, Jeff Gillman got closest to on No. 8 and No. 6 is still there.

The ladies didn’t want to chance it, but then the sun shined. Go figure.  

The Brown Bears player tournament will be on Saturday and should be very interesting with each team having three players and then a Brown Bears player rounding out the team. There will be several side events going on, with junior golfers welcome to come play this tournament. Breakfast and a lunch will be served. Entries close at 8 a.m. and tee-off is 9 a.m. 

The B&B tournament will be Sunday. This tournament is put on by the Birch Ridge and Bird Homestead golf associations and is a fun event where you get to play both courses. You designate which association you are playing for when you enter.

Entries close at 6 p.m. Friday night, so get your entries to your association in time. Tee-off will be at 9 a.m. at Bird Homestead. When you finish there you will be given a sack lunch and go directly to Birch Ridge, where you will play your back nine. Then food will be served and it will be announced which association gets to display the roving trophy with bragging rights for the next year.

I keep watching the fireweed and it looks as though it is pretty much gone and I think that a lot of the golfers are also gone to warmer places. We will be welcoming the fireweed and the golfers both back next spring.
