Seward volleyball tops Homer, wins North/South tourney

The Seward Seahawks used a late rally in the championship match to win the North/South Volleyball Tournament at Houston High School Saturday.

Seward dropped the first two sets of the title match, but came back to score a 3-2 (18-25, 23-25, 25-15, 25-16, 15-5) win over Homer in the final.

Anchorage Christian Schools placed third after a 3-1 (24-26, 25-22, 25-23, 25-19) win over Bethel.

Host Houston suffered a pair of losses in the tourney. Bethel barely slipped by the Hawks in first-round action, edging Houston 3-2 (20-25, 25-12, 14-25, 25-8, 17-15). ACS also needed five sets to get by Houston, and used a 3-2 (22-25, 25-13, 25-16, 22-25, 15-6) win to move into the third-place match.

Seward swept Bethel 3-0 (25-9, 25-14, 25-7) to advance to the championship. Homer moved into the title match with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-19) win over ACS.
