Homer football tops Kodiak

The Homer football team defeated Kodiak 20-0 on Monday in Northern Lights Conference play in Kodiak.

The win moves the Mariners to 3-1 in the Northern Lights Conference and into sole possession of second place. Kodiak drops to 2-2, and still can clinch the third and final playoff spot from the NLC by defeating Skyview on Saturday.

The game had been orginally scheduled for Saturday, but was postponed when Homer had trouble flying into Kodiak.

Homer coach Camron Wyatt said before the game that it was huge, because he wants to avoid Soldotna in the first round of the medium-schools playoffs.

With a steady rain falling, both teams went scoreless in the first half.

In the third quarter, Tommy Bowe scored on a 15-yard run with 5:57 left. Mark McGregor salted away with victory with a pair of scoring runs in the fourth quarter.

Homer’s rushing attack was dominant. The Mariners had 256 rushing yards. Kodiak only had 29 yards of total offense.

McGregor led the way with 185 yards rushing.
