Homer hockey wallops Kenai

The Homer Mariners hockey team enjoyed a 10-3 blowout against the Kenai Kardinals in an endowment game Tuesday evening in Homer.

Carson Duggar and Nikit Matveev each scored a hat trick for Homer, and along with two goals from Tommy Bowe, one each from Ulian Kuznan and Kiril Sanarov, and four assists from Dennis Sanarov, the Mariners are well on their way to a successful season.

Jake Eubank scored two of Kenai’s goals, with TJ Wagoner getting the other.

Homer led 5-2 after two periods, giving Kenai hope of a comeback, but the Mariners took away that thought with five goals in the period.

Homer coach Buck Laukitis praised Duggar’s and Matveev’s efforts, as well as mentioning the performance of goaltender Markian Polushkin, who saved 10 of 13 shots on the night.
