SoHi volleyball reaches final of NLC tourney

The Soldotna volleyball team advanced to the championship match of the Northern Lights Conference tournament in Kodiak with a victory over the Bears in the semifinals.

 

SoHi topped Kodiak 24-26, 26-24, 28-26 and 25-21. Saturday, SoHi plays the winner of the losers' bracket at 2 p.m. If SoHi loses, since it is a double-elimination tournament, the Stars get another crack at the title at 4 p.m.

SoHi's defense remained solid. Natalie Kress had 57 digs, while Julie Litchfield had 29, Kaycee Munn had 26 and Emily Schneider had 19.

"Natalie was incredible tonight reading and digging," SoHi coach Bruce King wrote in an email.

Munn also had four blocks (one stuff), three aces and 15 kills.

"Kaycee as usual had a hand in everything," King wrote.

Also for SoHi, Kaillee Skjold had nine blocks and 19 kills, Litchfield had 11 blocks (two stuff), 18 assists and nine kills, Katelynn Kerkvliet had six blocks (one stuff) and 12 kills, Schneider had three aces, and Heidi Westerman had 37 assists.

Earlier in the day, Kenai Central was swept out of the losers' bracket by Palmer.
