Colony wins Peninsula Duals

Colony 1 edged Kodiak 1 37-36 on Saturday in the championship dual of the 2012 Peninsula Duals at Nikiski.

 

Meanwhile, Palmer defeated West 59-20 for third place, and Kotzebue toppled Nikiski 54-24 for fifth place, and Dillingham defeated Homer 39-37 for seventh place.

Area teams Kenai and Seward also participated. Seward lost a pair of matches to get ousted from the Saturday bracket. Kenai lost to Dillingham, came back to beat Seward, but then was eliminated by Homer.

Skyview was led by 98-pounder Seth Hutchison, who went 7-0 at the tournament. Sam Janorschke, wrestling at 132, also finished the tournament a perfect 7-0.

Nikiski got a perfect tournament from Josh Brown at 152. He went 5-0. Morgan Sauve also went 5-0 for the Bulldogs at 170 pounds.

Switching off between 195 pounds and 220 pounds, the Johnson brothers of Nikiski did not lose a match. Lincoln went 5-0, while Luke finished 4-0.

Hope Steffensen paced the Kards by going 5-0 at 106 pounds at the tournament. Zach Koziczkowski also had a perfect tourney for the Kards. He finished 3-0 at 195 and 1-0 at 220.

The final perfect performance from Kenai came from Jake Dragseth at 285 pounds. He finished 5-0 at the tourney.

The Saturday bracket was set up by pool wrestling Friday.

In Friday action, Pool A saw Kotzebue top Seward 55-12, Palmer top Bethel 48-24, Colony 1 top Bethel 63-13, and Kodiak 1 top Dillingham 58-15. In Pool B, West defeated Houston 55-27, Nikiski defeated Kenai 46-30, Palmer defeated Houston 52-26, and Nikiski defeated Kodiak 60-18. In Pool C, Colony 2 topped Unalaska 46-28, West topped Seward 60-30, Kodiak 1 topped Skyview 64-15, and Colony 1 defeated Skyview 57-21. Finally, in Pool D, Dillingham topped Homer 40-35, Homer topped Colony 2 55-12, Kodiak 2 topped Unalaska 47-27, and Kotzebue defeated Kenai 53-25.
