Kenai, SoHi hockey have tough trip to Anchorage

The Kenai Central and Soldotna hockey teams were swept by Anchorage teams Friday and Saturday on the road.

The Stars came closest to victory Friday, when they lost to Service 1-0. The teams played two scoreless periods before Howard Yawitt scored the game-winner with 2:30 left, on assists from Leo Karcz and Andrew Cummings. SoHi had 15 shots in the game, while Service had 21.

On Saturday, SoHi lost 9-1 to defending state champion Dimond. Lane Bauer and Aidan Tielborg had hat tricks for the Lynx, while Nick Wrobel scored for the Stars. Dimond had 36 shots, while SoHi had 11.

On Friday, Kenai lost to Dimond 14-0. Bauer and Brandon Sakumoto had hat tricks in that game. The Kards managed six shots on goal.

Saturday, Kenai took a 7-1 loss to West. Garen Teders led West with a goal and two assists. For Kenai, T.J. Wagoner had a goal, and Justin Alvey made 43 saves in net.
