Friday at the Cook Inlet Classic

Soldotna JV girls 31, Ninilchik 7

 

The Stars used a tough defense to take down the Wolverines on Friday at the Cook Inlet Classic at Cook Inlet Academy.

Hailey Miller had eight points to pace the Stars, while Kaylee Smith had four points for Ninilchik.

Cook Inlet Academy girls 38, Nikolaevsk 30

The Eagles won the showdown of two teams expected to be the top squads in the Peninsula Conference. The game also counted toward the Peninsula Conference standings.

CIA was able to gradually expand the lead throughout the game, and then hold the Warriors to three points in the final period.

Nicole Moffis had 15 points for CIA, while Megan Bauder had 10. For Nikolaevsk, Kilina Klaich, Sophia Kalugin and Megan Hickman had six points.

Soldotna JV 76, Nanwalek 14

Brooks Furlong had 25 points, including six 3-pointers, to lead the Stars past the Eagles.

Also for SoHi JV, James Lee had 11 points and Drew Fowler added 10.

For Nanwalek, John Romanoff had eight points.

Nikolaevsk boys 63, Eagles 61

The Warriors served notice to the defending Peninsula Conference champion Eagles that they have their sights set on their crown.

Nikolaevsk got 30 points from Eric Mametieff in pulling out the close game. Anatoli Fefelov added 12 points, while Anthony Yakunin had 11 and Blake Klaich had 10.

For the Eagles, freshman Timmy Smithwick pumped in a game-high 34 points, while Koebryn Mlynarik had 16 points.
