3 brave cold temps for skijor event

Only three competitors turned up for the normally popular Tustumena 200 Cross Country Ski and Skijor event at Tsalteshi Trails on Sunday. The reason? The temperature was minus 20 when the event started at noon.

The three competitors were all in the single-dog category. The order of finish was Patti Berkhahn, Cory Route and Tanner Best. Berkhahn was so comfortable in the cold temps she took a second lap and completed six kilometers.

T200 race director Tami Murray also thanked the volunteers from the T200 and Tsalteshi Trails who braved the temperatures in order to make the event possible.

Sunday was the only day all winter when Tsalteshi Trails is open to dogs.
