Levesque answers Twitter questions...

Posted: December 27, 2012 - 11:34pm  |  Updated: December 28, 2012 - 2:28am

I’ll be honest, I’m in the holiday spirit. It’s great having family around, eating till your pants unbutton themselves, and opening tightly wrapped socks like it’s a new Ruger .380 - that tricky grandma, she’s always crafty with the wrapping. Nonetheless, since it’s the holiday season I’ve decided to write another special edition column for the readers. In this edition I’ll answer five of the most asked questions via Twitter. Let me clarify, five questions I’m constantly asked via Twitter. I hope you all enjoy and I’ll see you in the New Year.

*How many events will the Peninsula Fighting Championship hold in 2013?*

The most frustrating issue in the progress of MMA, on the Peninsula, was the Soldotna Sports Center. Now that the relationship between the Sports Center and the PFC has been restored, I’m assuming the 2013 year will see four to five PFC events. The only obstacle standing in the way of the PFC holding multiple events in 2013 are the fighters. Establishing a professional promotion and keeping fighters accountable is the next phase for the PFC.

*Will a fighter from the Peninsula ever make it to the UFC?*

A great question with a simple answer, yes. Let’s take a look at some of the recent talent to leave Alaska and enter the domain of the UFC.

Cody McKenzie, a UFC featherweight contender, is from Cordova, Alaska. Nic Herron-Webb, the Alaska Fighting Championship welterweight champion, made the roster for ‘The Ultimate Fighter 16’ TV series. In short it’s not about location, it’s about talent, work ethic and timing.

*Is there a chance the UFC will come to Alaska?*

At this point the UFC is never coming to Alaska. It’s not a matter of population densities or economics but the absence of a state athletic commission. Until the state of Alaska has a sanctioning body for competitive combat sports, it’s going to be a long time before the UFC comes to ‘The Last Frontier.’ If you’re wondering where — if they did hold an event — it would be located, the answer is simple, Anchorage.

*What UFC fight are you looking forward to in 2013?*

While the UFC has already booked some incredible fights for the 2013 year - George St. Pierre vs. Nick Diaz, Ronda Rousey vs. Liz Carmouche and Jose Aldo vs. Frankie Edgar - there’s one fight I’m hoping they can make before the year ends, Jon Jones vs. Anderson Silva.

A super-fight between the two most exciting, creative and athletic champions the UFC has ever rostered would be a record shattering bout. It’s a fight the fans want to see and the UFC prides itself on giving the fans what they want.

*How do I get my question/s answered on these special edition columns?*

First and foremost I love answering your questions in these special edition columns. It gives me a chance to interact with you, the reader. Now to the question, the best way to your questions to me is via Twitter. It’s a great way to connect. My Twitter handle is @scottlevesque.

From my family to yours, have a wonderful holiday season.
