Skyview drops a pair at ACS tourney

The Skyview girls and boys basketball teams lost games on the opening day of the Lime Solar/Pepsi Invitational at Anchorage Christian Schools in Anchorage.

The Skyview girls team dropped a 63-29 decision to Valdez, with the Buccaneers taking a 21-5 lead after the first quarter.

Alex Derifield had a huge game for the Buccaneers, getting 27 points with five 3-pointers.

The Skyview boys also never recovered from a slow start, as South took a 19-6 lead after the first quarter en route to a 73-31 victory.

Louis Page had 17 points to lead a balanced South attack.

Ninilchik sweeps Lumen Christi

The Ninilchik girls and boys basketball teams swept Lumen Christi on Thursday in Peninsula Conference action.

The girls notched a 28-23 victory to improve to 1-1 in the league and 1-4 overall. Coach Rod Van Saun said the Wolverines had a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter, but Lumen Christi cut into that lead late.

Freshman Melissa Ehlers had seven points, while freshman Jordan Finney added six. Sophomore Melissa Clark also had six points.

The boys cruised to a 58-25 victory with Lumen Christi missing some players due to ineligibility. Ninilchik is now 1-0 in the league and 1-1 overall.

Jack Wheeler had 20 points in only 10 minutes for Ninilchik, while Sam Mireles and Jayke Cooper had 14 points each.

Ninilchik plays at Birchwood Christian today at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., then at Wasilla Lake Christian on Saturday at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.
