Powered by a trio of third-period goals, the Kenai Central Kardinals forced a 3-3 tie against visiting Colony at the Soldotna Sports Center on Thursday.


The Knights held a commanding 3-0 lead heading into the final period of regulation, but Austin Hibbert sparked the Kards with his goal less than two minutes into the third. Just more than three minutes later, TJ Wagoner scored the first of his two goals to cut Colony’s lead to 1.

Wagoner added the game-tying goal with 4:16 remaining in regulation. The teams skated scoreless through overtime. Colony outshot the Kards 4-2 during the extra period.

Colton Symbol and Jacob Link each scored first-period goals to give the Knights a 2-0 lead, less than six minutes into action. Anthony Kolendo added an unassisted tally early in the second period for the Knights.

Colony outshot Kenai 25-20 in the tie. The Knights beat Kenai 11-0 earlier this season.

Ben Mills had 22 saves for Kenai.

Wasilla skaters topple Soldotna

The Wasilla hockey team jumped out to a 3-0 lead in defeating Soldotna on Thursday at the Soldotna Sports Center.

Tanner Schachle, Colten Fletcher and Jack Reeves scored for the Warriors in a dominant first period. Wasilla outshot SoHi 14-3 in the first frame.

Hunter Lott scored for SoHi in the second period, but Reeves lit the lamp again before the end of the second period for a 4-1 game.

Soldotna worked its way back into the contest in the third period. Jacob O’Lena scored with 9:21 left, then Kenny Griffin scored with 2:22 left, but that is as close as SoHi would get.

Mariners beat Moose

HOMER — The Homer Mariners scored a 3-1 North Star Conference win over the Palmer Moose in Homer on Thursday.

Jacob Inukai scored the lone goal for Palmer, a first-period tally. Homer outshot Palmer 25-12 in the victory.
