Kenai Central's Ostrander named Gatorade Girls Runner of Year

On Thursday, Kenai Central’s Allie Ostrander was named the Gatorade Alaska Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year for the second straight year.

The award recognizes outstanding athletic excellence, as well as academic achievement and exemplary character.

Ostrander won her first Class 4A state cross country title this past fall. That season, she also won the Skyview Invitational, Bartlett Invitational, Palmer Invitational and Region III championship.

“She’s clearly been in a class of her own,” said Marcus Dunbar, the head coach at Kodiak High School. “She’s a special runner. I think she’s someone who could make a mark at the national level.”

According to a press release, Ostrander also has a 4.0 grade-point average in the classroom. She also is a member of her church youth group, and volunteers for local food bank and youth soccer programs.
