The Kenai boys basketball team took what Kardinal coach Ken Felchle called an “ugly win” on Tuesday night at Kenai, defeating Homer 48-42.

Senior Wyatt Fitt led the Kards with 17 points, while Gugliellmo Battistelli came up big with 14 points of his own.

Felchle said he was missing senior forward Shane Spalding, who is out with a thumb injury, but nevertheless, Kenai came out charging, building a 25-13 lead by halftime.

Homer then began to rally by outscoring Kenai 15-11 in the third quarter and 14-12 in the fourth. Kenneth Schneider had eight points in the fourth to lead the Homer charge. Both Schneider and Sam Reinert had 10 points to pace the Mariners.

Kenai will travel to Nome this weekend with a 5-7 record.

Seldovia boys 63, Kodiak ESS 33

The Seldovia Sea Otters boys basketball team hosted the Kodiak Emerging Small Schools Ravens Tuesday afternoon in Seldovia. The visiting team was comprised of players from the Kodiak villages of Karluk, Ouzinke, and Akhiok.

The Ravens were led by Zack Clarion with 10 points, while Dallas Paramarioff and David Reft dropped in eight each. The Otter’s Calem Collier contributed 24 and Aidan Philpot had 18 points.

In the evening the Otters took on the Old Harbor Lynx in a 67-25 win. Seldovia held the Lynx to 25 points with Brian Koozata scoring a team high 10. Seldovia was led by Seth O’Leary with 20 points.

Nikolaevsk girls 49, Homer JV 31

The Warriors took advantage of a poor first half from the Mariners’ junior varsity team to take a win on Tuesday night at Nikolaevsk.

Nianiella Dorvall led Nikolaevsk with 15 points, seven of which came in the third quarter, and teammate Kayla Stafford added 12.

For Homer, Tayla Cabana led the way with 11 points, including eight in the third quarter.

Nikolaevsk held Homer to only seven first-half points, while racking up 19 for themselves. Both teams found some offense in the third quarter, as Homer outscored the Warriors 14-13, but Nikolaevsk crushed any thoughts Homer had of a comeback by putting up 17 points in the fourth quarter. Homer also suffered from poor shooting from the free-throw line, going five for 21.

Homer’s C team defeated the Nikolaevsk junior varsity 39-33 earlier in the day.
