Oilers sign catchers Sonabend, Wieland

Adam Sonabend, a 5-foot-11, 197-pound junior catcher, will join the Oilers for the 2013 season. Sonabend is entering his first season at Eastern Michigan after transferring from Mesa Community College. While at Mesa, he was a first-team ACCAC Division II All-Region selection after batting .325 with a home run, 15 doubles and 40 RBI. Adam is from Scottsdale, Ariz.

Mike Wieland, a 6-1, 195-pound junior catcher, will also join the Oilers this season. He is entering his first season at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff after transferring from Heartland Community College. Wieland transferred to Heartland for his sophomore year after helping Iowa Western Community College reach the NJCAA Division 1 World Series. While at Heartland CC, Wieland started in 56 games and hit .306 with a .413 on-base average in 183 at-bats. He finished the season with 56 hits, 13 doubles, five triples and two home runs. He also scored 37 runs and had 47 RBIs. Mike is from Rock Island, Ill.

The schedule for the 2013 season is complete and will be posted on the Oilers website shortly. Something new for the 2013 season will be a postseason tournament for the top four teams at the end of the regular season. Details on the tournament are still being worked out.
