Soldotna, Homer skate to tie

The good news for the Soldotna hockey team: goalie Cody Harvey has not given up a goal in the Stars’ last three North Star Conference games.

The bad news: Harvey did not notch a win in any of those contests.

Soldotna and host Homer skated to a 0-0 tie Tuesday, the third straight NSC scoreless tie for the Stars. The two teams also had tied, 2-2, in their previous conference game.

Alex Sanarov notched the shutout for Homer, which outshot the Stars 26-17. Homer is now 3-4-2 in the league, while the Stars are 3-2-4.

“We played extremely well,” Homer coach Buck Laukitis said. “We had our looks. We had a lot of great looks.

“Cody made some great saves. We knew we were facing a very good goaltender going into the game. The kids did all the things we talked about to try and beat him. He stood on his head.”

In doing so, Harvey put a damper on Homer’s senior night.

Laukitis said the line of Ethan Kizzia, Tommy Bowe and Carson Duggar had a great game.

The coach also credited his defense for constant improvement. The unit boasts two seniors, a sophomore and two freshmen.

Homer will play Kenai Central at the sports center Saturday at 7 p.m.

SoHi gets the Kards on Friday at 7 p.m. at the sports center.
