Friday hoops roundup

The Nikolaevsk girls and boys basketball teams made their way into the finals of the Nenana Invitational Tournament on Friday.

The Nikolaevsk girls rolled to a 50-26 victory over Susitna Valley. They will face host Nenana in the title game.

The Nikolaevsk boys defeated Huslia 62-45. They will face Minto in the title game.

Also Thursday, Minto bombed its way into the title game by topping Ninilchik 67-44. Minto had 10 3-pointers in the game, including five from Tyrese Washington, who had 22 points. Jack Wheeler had 26 points for Ninilchik.

The Wolverines girls also fell in the semifinals, losing to host Nenana 48-32. Edna Standifer had 13 for Nenana, while Krista Sinclair and Melissa Ehlers had nine points for Ninilchik.

Whaler Invitational

The Monroe Catholic girls grabbed a 40-25 victory from Skyview on Friday in Barrow.

Alexis Gavora had 13 points for Monroe, while Meghan Powers had nine for the Panthers.

Also Friday, the North Pole boys topped Skyview 68-30.

DeAndre Campbell had 13 points for Barrow, while Tim Duke had 11 to pace Skyview.

On Thursday, the Barrow boys opened the tourney with a 43-35 victory over Skyview. Jacob Carlson paced Skyview with 16 points.

The Barrow girls picked up a 69-24 victory over Skyview. Hayley Ramsell’s eight points led Skyview.

Seward boys 59, Cordova 44

The host Seahawks used a huge fourth quarter to notch a Southcentral Conference victory on Friday.

Seward outscored Cordova 25-16 in the fourth. Matthew Moore had 19 points to lead Seward, while Ronnie Jackson had 14 and Jeff Buchanan added 10. Isaac Jensen had 12 for Cordova.

Seward girls 54, Cordova 38

Steady won the race for the host Seahawks on Friday in Southcentral Conference play.

The Wolverines had a 20-point outburst in the fourth quarter, but it made little difference because Seward went into that period with a 41-18 lead.

Maria Jackson and Ashley VonBorstel had 13 for Seward, while Jasmine Perea had 12. For Cordova, Mallory Merritt pumped in 17 points.
