Tuesday hoops roundup

The Nikolaevsk girls came up with a big fourth-quarter effort to drop Unalakleet 45-34 at home on Tuesday.

Nikolaevsk was paced by Nianiella Dorvall with 17 points, while Unalakleet’s Jonisha Wilson had 21 for herself.

The Warriors trailed 23-20 at halftime and 32-29 after three quarters, but outscored Unalakleet 16-2 in the fourth to put an exclamation point on the game.

The Warriors will play Seldovia next, at home on Friday at 6 p.m.

Unalakleet boys 68, Nikolaevsk 55

Even with a 55-point effort, the Nikolaevsk boys could not beat Unalakleet on Tuesday at home.

Eric Mametieff knocked down 15 points to lead the Warriors, and teammate Anatoli Fefelov added 13.

The biggest performance of the night came from Unalakleet’s Stuart Towarak with 34 points. Towarak hit the basket 15 times, and had 10 points in the third quarter and eight in the fourth.

Unalakleet started fast, racing to a 26-13 lead after the first quarter. After being outscored in the second and third quarters, Nikolaevsk tried to rally back, but fell short.

The Warriors are scheduled to play Seldovia at home on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Tuesday’s girls and boys games between the Soldotna Stars and Nikiski Bulldogs were not played and have been rescheduled for Monday the 18th.

The Cook Inlet Academy girls matchup with Seldovia on Tuesday was also not played, and will likely not be rescheduled.
