The Cook Inlet Academy girls advanced to the finals of the Ninilchik Tournament with a 56-9 victory over Ninilchik on Friday.

Abi Jakits paced the Eagles with 17 points, while Megan Bauder, Kendra Brush and Ashleigh Hammond had nine apiece. Melissa Ehlers paced the Wolverines with four.

In other girls action, Noorvik defeated Unalakleet 21-15.

On the boys side, Unalakleet defeated Ninilchik 65-47 to move to the title game.

Colin Corsetti led the effort for Unalakleet, getting 20 points, while Tristin Ticket had 19.

For Ninilchik, Jack Wheeler had 29, and Jayke Cooper had 10.

In the playback bracket, Noorvik took down Cook Inlet Academy 63-51. Danny Wells had 22 for Noorvik, while Arthur Ballot had six 3-pointers en route to 20 points.

For CIA, Timmy Smithwick had 17, Koebryn Mlynarik had 14 and Mylon Weems had 11.

Colony boys 67, Kenai 42

The Colony boys basketball team welcomed Kenai Central to the Mat-Su Valley on Friday by cruising to a 67-42 win.

Ten Colony players scored in a balanced effort, led by Damien Fulp with 19 points, and followed by teammate Hunter Eisenhower with 11.

Kenai’s top scorer was senior Wyatt Fitt with 18.

The Knights started the shooting early with 22 first-quarter points, and continued to oustcore the Kards. Colony led 35-21 at the half.

Colony was also deadly from beyond the arc, hitting 10 3-pointers.

The Colony girls also notched a win over the Kardinals on Friday.

Nikiski girls 36, Homer 23

The Bulldogs put together a balanced effort to top the Mariners on Friday night in Homer, getting points from six of their seven players that saw time.

Alyssa Darch led Nikiksi with 10 points, and Ashley Epperheimer, Rachel Thompson and Sienna Wallis followed closely with seven points each. Wallis also grabbed 11 rebounds.

Tayla Cabana led Homer with seven points.

The Mariners took an early lead, but Nikiski stormed back in the second quarter by outscoring Homer 14-4 en route to a 19-13 halftime lead.

The game marked Nikiski’s sixth win in a row, and leaves them with a 13-5 overall record, 5-2 in the South Central Conference.

Homer boys 48, Nikiski 34

The host Mariners notched a Southcentral Conference victory over the Bulldogs.

Sam Reinert had 18 points for the Mariners, while Sheldon Hutt added 11. For the Bulldogs, Seth Carstens had 17.

Nikiski coach Reid Kornstad said the difference in the game was turnovers, with Nikiski having 24 and Homer having 10.

Nikolaevsk girls 59, Seldovia 6

The host Warriors cruised to a Peninsula Conference victory Friday.

Kayla Stafford led a balanced scoring attack for Nikolaevsk with 10 points.

Nikolaevsk boys 62, Seldovia 42

The Warriors put four in double figures in notching a Peninsula Conference victory Friday in Nikolaevsk.

Eric Mametieff led Nikolaevsk with 17, while Anthony Yakunin had 16, Blake Klaich had 12 and Anatoli Fefelov had 10. For Seldovia, Aidan Philpot had 16 points, while Dylan Waterbury pitched in 13 points.
