The Ketchikan girls basketball team used a solid second-half defensive effort to stop Soldotna 41-31 on Friday at the Mt. McKinley Holiday Classic at Monroe Catholic in Fairbanks.

The Kings led 26-23 at halftime, but outscored SoHi 9-2 in the third quarter to take control of the game.

Lindsey Wong had 11 points to lead the Stars, while Eliah Anderson had 19 for the Kings.

Soldotna, now 0-2 at the tourney, finishes play with a 6:20 p.m. game Saturday against Monroe Catholic.

Monroe Catholic boys 65, Soldotna 35

The Rams rolled past the Stars in the second day of the round-robin Mt. McKinley Holiday Classic.

The Rams opened up a 32-15 lead at halftime. Soldotna used a solid third quarter to cut the gap to 44-31 after three, but Monroe dominated the final quarter.

Nate Spence paced the Stars with 10 points, while Jalon McCullough pumped in 26 points for the Rams.

The Stars, now 0-2 in the tourney, finish up play by taking on Ketchikan at 4:40 p.m. Saturday.

Juneau-Douglas boys 69, Kenai Central 63

The Crimson Bears used a quick start to win a consolation round game Friday at the Alaska Prep Shootout at Dimond High School in Anchorage.

Juneau took a 20-13 lead after the first quarter, but after that the Kards would outscore the Bears by one for the rest of the game.

Guy Bean had 23 points for Juneau, hitting 7 of 10 from the floor. Bruce Jones added 11, hitting 4 of 5 from the floor.

Kenai had a balanced scoring attack and turned the ball over just three times. Keith Ivy had 16 points, while Jonah Theisen, Josh Jackman and Kyle Foree each had 11 points.

Kenai finishes the tournament Saturday by playing Lathrop for seventh place at 3 p.m.

Ninilchik girls 43, Seldovia 33

The host Wolverines pulled away in the second half for a Peninsula Conference victory on Friday.

Ninilchik led 16-14 at halftime, but outscored Seldovia 14-10 in the third quarter and 13-9 in the fourth quarter.

Olivia Delgado paced the Wolverines with 15 points, while Alanna Goins and Jordan Finney added 10 apiece.

For the Sea Otters, Marina Chissus had 20 points, while Olivia Turner dumped in 10.

Seldovia boys 57, Ninilchik 54

The visiting Sea Otters came back from a 46-37 deficit at the end of three quarters to notch a Peninsula Conference victory Friday.

Ninilchik also led 14-10 after the first quarter and 27-11 at halftime.

Calem Collier had a monster second half for the Sea Otters. Collier had 19 of his game-high 26 points in the second half, including five 3-pointers.

Aiden Philpot added 12 for Seldovia, while Chance Haller had 11.

Two of Ninilchik’s leading scorers finished the game in foul trouble. Big man Austin White had 18 points and finished with four fouls, while Tyler Presley had 14 points and finished with four fouls. Sam Mireles added 16 points for the Wolverines.
