Lazzaro, Duwe score in win at Prospects tourney

Kenai River Brown Bears captain Zac Lazzaro had two goals and an assist in helping the Frontier team to a 5-4 victory over the NAHL 18 Selects on Wednesday in the North American Hockey League Top Prospects Tournament at the Troy Sports Center in Troy, Mich.

Lazzaro’s second goal, coming 3 minutes, 18 seconds, into the third period, ultimately was the game winner. It was also Lazzaro’s third goal and fifth overall point scored at the tournament.

Brad Duwe also recorded a goal, coming at the 6:37 mark of the third period, which increased Frontier’s lead to 5-3 at that point. The goal was Duwe’s second of the tournament, after he notched one in Monday’s loss against Texas.

In Wednesday’s game, Frontier started hot by outshooting the Selects 12-9 in the first period, but ended up being outshot 39-37 in the game. Three times the Selects managed to tie the game up after a Frontier score, but never took the lead outright.

The Brown Bears’ regular season will continue on March 1 when they take on the Fairbanks Ice Dogs at the Soldotna Sports Center.
